About the event
Mental health providers are invited to come learn about the traumatic impact of systemic harm in order to better support your clients. This presentation will focus on a framework of systemic harm referred to by Pebble McCleary, LCPC as “The 5 Evils of Society:” capitalism, colonialism, white supremacy, patriarchy, and puritanism. These evils enforce isolative, shaming, hierarchical, individualistic belief systems that infiltrate our conceptualizations of ourselves, others, and the world around us. The goal of this presentation is to carry this framework into the mental health field and into clinical work with clients of different backgrounds, allowing participants to recognize that living in a society that is built upon these evils is traumatic and that fostering these evils within the mental health field is inherently retraumatizing to both clinicians and those who access mental health services.
Continental breakfast will be included.
